DTNI, in collaboration with Locality, Development Trust Association Scotland, and the Development Trusts Association Wales, is excited to introduce Connection Trailblazers. This new initiative within the Connectors UK programme addresses some of the toughest challenges facing community organisations today. Together, we aim to support organisations as they strive to build long-term community connections, moving from crisis-response to sustainable local empowerment.
A Critical Time for Community Connection
Community organisations are facing unprecedented pressures. The past decade has brought on austerity, a global pandemic, and a cost-of-living crisis, leaving many struggling to sustain their vital role in community building. While organisations stepped up to deliver basic services during these crises, this shift in focus has often come at the expense of their broader, long-term mission to foster community resilience and empowerment.
At DTNI, we’ve seen how community trusts across Northern Ireland have had to pivot to meet immediate needs. However, the Connection Trailblazers initiative is designed to help organisations step away from short-term crisis response and refocus on strengthening community ties and unlocking barriers to long-term connection.
”We know the potential across our membership is vast. This is a fantastic opportunity for DTNI to support organisations in Northern Ireland to make transformational change and shape their community’s future.” Charlie Fisher CEO
How Connection Trailblazers Supports Local Community Organisations
Through Connection Trailblazers, we will support two organisations in Northern Ireland with the tools and resources needed to deepen their community engagement, including:
- An unrestricted grant of £20,000 – allowing flexibility to fund areas that matter most to the organisation’s community impact.
- 12 days of relationship manager support, alongside dedicated guidance on impact measurement and learning.
- Funded peer networking and leadership development – helping organisations learn from and inspire each other while building local capacity for systemic change.
This 18-month initiative will empower selected Trailblazers to innovate, develop sustainable community practices, and foster environments where meaningful connections can thrive.
Building Strong Foundations for Sustainable Community Networks
Our Connectors UK programme creates unique opportunities for community trusts to access resources across the UK, develop new skills, and share best practices. Connection Trailblazers builds upon this by diving deep into the potential of community organisations, enabling them to explore new models and build long-term resilience.
