This unique community festival offers a chance for people all over Northern Ireland to reflect and connect to the beauty, culture and heritage of local landscapes.

Run by DTNI member, The Waterways Community, the festival is driven by a strong belief in the benefit of carving out time in a hectic world for the joy of exploring creative instincts. Thanks to the ongoing support of the Arts Council NI, the festival’s fourth season is running until June 2022.

This year the festival is providing free creative writing workshops led by talented local writers to spark new thoughts and ideas. These fun and inspiring sessions are happening online and in community venues until the end of February. Email the festival organiser for details and booking: maire@thewaterwayscommunity.org.

The theme for submissions is simply ‘waterways’: rivers, lakes, canals or sea. Stories and poems can be personal reminiscence, historical, a reflection or pure invention on the theme. Photographs will reflect the photographer’s take on the life, history and beauty of waterways.

Entries will be shortlisted by a team of judges in March and April, and the chosen work will be performed, videoed and shared at the Festival Awards Celebration Event next June.

Like and follow the festival Facebook page for updates and relax with the videos of last year’s shortlisted entries.
