The Gathering: A Discussion on the Future Ownership of Lough Neagh

Thursday 12th June 2025, 9.00am – 1.00pm

Lough Neagh Discovery Centre

Lough Neagh Development Trust (LDNT) invites key stakeholders, citizens, public sector representatives, elected members, community groups, businesses, and civic action organisations to discuss the future ownership & management of Lough Neagh.

LNDT contend that the Lough should be in a form of community ownership that serves the needs of all connected to it. A future ownership model would recognise the ecological importance of the Lough alongside its cultural, social, and economic value.

You will hear the story of South Uist in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland, where community buy-out and management of the island has served as a vehicle for community renewal and regeneration.

Nick Cooper, the current owner of the Lough, will share his concerns and future aspirations. There will also be an opportunity to agree on priority actions for LNDT to advance the ownership debate, including setting the terms for the election of its board.

We encourage all interested members of the community to attend and take part in shaping the future of the Lough. Your voice and input are vital to this important conversation.
