What We Do

Encourage the growth of new development trusts

Through the provision of information, resources and networking opportunities, Development Trusts NI assists interested communities explore the benefits of the development trust model.

We also provide useful resources, training and limited support to communities wishing to establish a development trust.

Support and strengthen established development trusts

DTNI facilitates learning and development through a range of networking opportunities including an annual conference, a programme of training and exchange visits between members and potential members.

DTNI is also committed to contributing, wherever possible, to the income of our members, including commissioned member services, provision of outsourced consultancy, the hire of member facilities for training sessions and site visits from other development trusts.

Promote and represent the interests of development trusts

The development trust movement needs a strong voice to influence the context in which it operates and to maximise the opportunities and resources available to further its aims. To this end, DTNI advocates for societal and economic change and lobbies local authorities on behalf of the community, social enterprise and voluntary sector for changes in policy and legislation.

The ability to do this effectively depends, in part, on the participation of our members – feeding into consultations, attending strategic events, supporting DTNI activities and raising the profile of the development trusts movement with both political and agency representatives at a local level.
